Frequently asked questions

What about boys?
The syllabi are especially designed to keep boys occupied, interested and fit.

Where do I take my exams?
Either at the school  or at the headquarters of the Dance Societies  (Battersea for RAD, and Old Street, London for ISTD)

What will it be like?
Dancers can be examined in sets of up to four people.
The teacher will make sure you have thought about everything before you go in to the exam studio to show your work. You will  need to be well groomed and wearing the correct uniform.
Most sections of the exam will be danced with the other candidates but certain items will be danced alone.
CD's will be played for modern and tap exams but a pianist will play the ballet exam music and sometimes for tap exams.
The examiner may make a new pattern of steps for you to demonstrate if this is part of the exam that you are taking and will make notes on your performance.
Once you have finished you will curtsey or bow, say 'thank you' to the examiner and return to the  dressing room.
About four weeks later you will receive your
results.. your teacher will explain the marking system to you.  Then  you will be able to
progress to the next grade.

Student Senior School Diplomas

Why do we take exams?

Exams help us to rise to a higher standard, to polish and tidy our work and to sharpen up our memory.
They make sure that we have reached a point where we can demonstrate well the dancing pieces that we have learned.
Also they prepare us for the ability we need when working at the next level.
They help us raise our confidence without having to perform in front of a big audience.

Our latest exams

Were taken in May and June    ranging from Primary to Vocational levels. We entered several 'first timers' for whom it was a positive experience and our pupils were delighted to receive their results and certificates.
